Different cultures have different beliefs that are mostly based on mythology. But another basis of these beliefs is surprising and even hard to believe true to life experiences of different persons. It may be a myth or legend to others but all Mayans and most of Yucatan tourists have an unexpected alux experience they will never ever forget.
According to Mayan mythology, an alux is an ancient spirit that takes the form of a small person and various small forest animals. There are times that the alux shows itself as a weird looking animal. Others have already encountered an alux unknowingly for it showed itself as a weasel wearing small sandals. But there are documented cases that these creatures are seen in scary and more bizarre instances. One of these unexpected surprise happened in a popular Yucatan resort where the alux took the form of a spotted wildcat that mutters undistinguishable words!
Dan Gannon is a tourist who has spotted one of these aloof creatures during his trip to Oxkutzcab, Yucatan last December 30, 2007. Sitting in the front right seat of the car, he first spotted a raccoon in the right side of the road. Then after a couple of minutes he saw a two feet tall, medium brown colored creature that moved behind a pile of dried weeds. He mentioned that, “What I saw was not indicative of a thin, scrawny hominid, but rather a very, very muscular one” and “I could also see that the features were very human-like, and not hairy at all.”
Most of these sightings are in the Yucatan Peninsula and Guatemala. Though the spirit lives deep in the forest it can be lured to move in other locations. Some of these creatures are also spotted near towns and highways. It also goes to the maize field when a farmer builds a house in his property. Most of the locals build a kahtal alux, which is a small house for the alux, so the spirit can safely stay on their property without causing trouble. This way the alux can help the farmer by growing more harvests and protecting its crops too. But some Mayans shut the aluxes in a small house after seven years of productivity for there are instances that the creature runs wild and plays tricks on people.
The aluxo’ob, which is the Mayan plural form of alux, have similar characteristics to children like being playful, energetic and happy. But if these forest spirits feel mistreated, they can bring trouble to persons by spreading illness or harmful tricks. It is best to treat them with respect and give them offerings too so they will reciprocate the kindness shown to them.

Japanese folklore is unique and no end to discussion. Often times we recognize the various ghosts and legends of Japan from the movie or anime. Here will be explained a few of these creatures. Some of you may already know, but you should see the other.
1. Kappa
Maybe you’re not too surprised when he first saw a picture of this creature. It looked like a little devil, often called monkeys of water. A Kappa has indentation above his head and the grooves were filled with water from the original springs. If water is spilled, lost magical power. Kappa usually drink blood, but it depends whether he is good or evil. Kappa love cucumbers, and if there are families who want to be protected Kappa or avoid bad luck, they usually write their name on a cucumber and tossed in the pool Kappa. These creatures are known as polite and always keep their promises. The strange thing in the story of Kappa in Japanese folklore is the number of different versions of Kappa. 5. Makura-gaeshi
What is unique of Japanese folklore as creatures-creatures who like to do strange things. Makura-gaeshi is ignorant spirit of the famous people like to shift the pillow during sleep. Some sources say they also like to sprinkle sand in the eyes of humans and steal the soul, but the best known of this ghost ignorance is like sliding a pillow. There is no story that explains how far the cushions removed, several sources told them only when the owner dropped the pillow fast asleep.
6. Mokumokuren
Mokumokuren also one of the Japanese demon who likes to do strange things. In ancient Japan, the sliding door made of plain paper. Of course, these papers can be perforated and torn. Mokumokuren is the spirit that inhabits the perforated paper sliding doors. If the owner is careless and paper sliding doors many holes, too many Mokumokuren who peered through the hole. For some strange reason you can’t wrap your head around, you would walk into the living room next morning to find the coffee table moved to a different spot. You thought someone in your family must have done it, so you pass it up and let the strange event go. Just when you think it’s over, you wake up one day and open your eyes to find pieces of furniture all over the place in random spots. Clearly, one of those creatures of the night wants to make its presence known.
3. Creepy Apparitions
You point the camera and click the button. The picture comes out perfectly with three of your friends smiling, but a blurry creature seems to be caught by your camera, as well. In another instance, you look into the mirror and see the reflection of a hazy image behind you making your knees tremble with fear. If this has happened more than twice in your house, consider the thought of seeking a paranormal expert’s help.
4. Strange Feeling of Being Watched
You don’t see anything strange or hear anything spooky, but you always feel like someone is watching for you. The thought is enough to send chills up and down your spine. This usually happens in a particular part of the house.
5. Animals’ Weird Behavior
Your pets suddenly act in a strange way. Your dogs bark at no one and have that scared look to their actions. According to paranormal experts, animals have a way of knowing and sensing whether there are evil creatures of the night co-habitating in your house.
