Sorting Through The Top Ten Weird Al Songs
Sorting Through The Top Ten Weird Al Songs
Article by Holly Dodd
Weird Al has done parodies of some of the biggest Grammy winners like Michael Jackson and Madonna in the 1980′s – It’s been 30 years since Weird Al Yankovic first broke onto the music scene is still making us laugh with his musical spoofs. Here’s a look at my top ten list of Weird Al songs and their influences. See if you agree.
Number 10: In 1984 Weird Al parodied The Greg Kihn Band’s “Jeopardy” – Where Kihn sang to his lover about “their love being in Jeopardy” it was almost too easy for Al to turn this into a spoof of a loser on the game show of the same name. The highest this song ever reached in the top 100 was 81.
Number 8: Queen had a huge hit called “Another One Bites The Dust” which in Weird Al speaks become a tale of the uncomfortable public transportation ride… “Another One Rides The Bus” – This one was one of weird al’s biggest hits topping out at number 4 but it didn’t have a video which puts lower on my list.
Number 7: Fat is a song that WAY did as homage to Michael Jackson’s Bad – it topped out at 99 in the U.S. perhaps because it was the second send-up on a MJ song. “You ain’t fat, you ain’t nothing!”
Number 6: “Like A Surgeon” features Al as an incompetent surgeon dropping a heart during surgery and doing his best Madonna imitation while getting wheel down a hospital hallway for his parody of Madonna’s “Like A Virgin”
Number 5: “Smells Like Nirvana” is the Band Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit. It’s been said that band leader Kirt Cobain said he knew they made it when Weird Al covered their song. This one was one of Al’s most commercially successful songs that went all the way to number 35 in Billboards 100.
Number 4: I don’t know why I like this one so much, except that “The Saga Begins” pokes fun at Star Wars and Don McLean’s “American Pie” – two of my favorite things. Al looks pretty good as a Jedi Knight too in the video.
Number 3: Coming in next is Coolio’s “Gangstas’ Paradise” – Weird Al really twisted this parody so much that the artist Coolio claimed he didn’t give his blessings to the parody version “Amish Paradise” – you can just imagine how this one plays out but really do yourself a favor and watch the video, it’s must see Weird Al TV!
Number 2: I can’t even listen to Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” without hearing Weird Al’s satire “Eat It” simultaneously in my head. The song and the video are absolutely brilliant with the video parodying MJ’s video shot for shot. Another must see!
Number 1: Chamillionaire and Krayzie Bone had a edgy hit with “Ridin” – lyrics like “Tryin to catch me ridin’ dirty” insprired Al’s version into a white nerd lamenting that he couldn’t hang with the tough guys cause he was too “White And Nerdy” – This one happens to be Weird Al’s top single as of this time as well as my current favorite.
Now that you know what Weird Al Songs really put a smile on my face, go out and listen and watch a few of these and see if you agree.

Almost a perfect movie in my eyes. One thing that really caught my eye throughout the film was the use of special effects. There was a little CG in the film but most of the explosions were done they way they were suppose to; in real life. That combined with the camera work was quite intense. They really had the camera angles going and that really added a better action effect to the film. The film is like an Western, but newer. You still got guns and horses, but with some added vehicles thrown in. The music also was a nice effect adding old time Western with newer electric and some Japanese feeling. There are many names in this film and they were all excellent actors. But I will just focus on the good, the bad and the weird. Woo-sung Jung was the good and he was the one that added the Western feel. That and he really knew how to spin a rifle which was intense. The bad was Byung-hun Lee who dressed like a freak out of a band, but for added effect. You could tell in his mind he was a little crazy and it showed every time he killed. Then you have the weird who was Kang-ho Song which brought a little comic relief to the film. Everyone knew how to act and this film really showed that it had a budget and took a lot of work with special effects instead of CG scenes you see now a days. The only thing I didn’t like was that the movie did run long, but that made me think it was going to be a huge ending. It was a decent ending, but not the one you would expect from all the build up. But that little error did nothing to really ruin the film for it was dynamite watching from start to finish.
